Andy Fung

Managing Director and Co-Founder

Mr Fung holds a Bachelor and a Master degree in Engineering and Commerce respectively all from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. He spent his career with Telstra, Optus and Lucent Technologies.

Whilst in Telstra, Mr Fung was seconded as Trade Commissioner to Austrade, an agency of the Australian government, to spearhead Australian telecommunications export activities to Asia Pacific and established an extensive network of contacts and knowledge in the region.

Mr Fung is a co-founder of Symbio Networks Pty Ltd, which has established itself a leader in developing and providing VoIP technologies and systems for service providers in Australia and overseas.   

Mr Fung is also a co-founder of My Net Fone Australia Pty Ltd which provides VoIP service and IP convergent solutions to residential and enterprise customers. The company was listed on the Australian Securities Exchange, (ASX: MFN) in May 2006 and is rated by Dun and Bradstreet as one of the fastest growing telco's in 2008.

Rene Sugo

Technical Director and Co-Founder

Rene holds a Bachelors degree in Electronics Engineering from the University of Technology, Sydney. Rene was subsequently awarded the Award for outstanding excellence in a bachelor's degree by the Institute of Electrical Engineers, London (IEEE); and the award for best thesis in electrical engineering by the Institute of Instrumentation and Control, Australia.

Rene started his career at the CSIRO - Australia's premier research and development organisation, before moving into the communications industry. Rene spent time working for Lucent Technologies Bell Labs in Australia, the USA and Asia.

Rene is a co-founder of Symbio Networks Pty Ltd, which has established itself as a leader in developing and providing VoIP technologies and systems for service providers in Australia and overseas.

Rene is also a co-founder of My Net Fone Australia Pty Ltd which provides VoIP service and IP convergent solutions to residential and enterprise customers. The company was listed on the Australian Securities Exchange, (ASX:MNF) in May 2006 and is rated by Dun and Bradstreet as one of the fastest growing telcos in Australia in 2008.

Rene is available for comment on all aspects of IP and VoIP technology, general aspects of the Australian telecommunications industry, as well as MyNetFone's business and operations.

James Woods

Development Director

James brings a wide range of industry experience in software development and applications and will help drive Symbio to new levels of success.

Having graduated with a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New South Wales, Sydney Australia, he undertook postgraduate research into industrial control theory and subsequently spent three years applying the theory at Cegelec (now Alstom) Australia. In that period he was responsible for the development of one of the first commercial crane sway stabilization systems in the world.

James then joined Jtec and was responsible for undertaking a wide range of telecommunications software development, including PRI modules for the U.S. market and network management systems. He took up a management position at Miva, a company specializing in the telephony applications, and spearheaded the development and deployment of IVR and CTI software in a wide range of applications. Later he joined Integrated Research as a Principal Software Engineer - IP Telephony Management, and was responsible for the development of systems management applications for Cisco CallManager as well as VoIP network assessment tools.

Alastair Slattery

Manager Wholesale and Business Development

Alastair Slattery holds a First Class Honours degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Telecommunications) from the University of Sydney and has years of extensive experience in the design, development, deployment and support of carrier grade VoIP network infrastructure for service providers in Australia and overseas. These VoIP networks, including Symbio's own wholesale network platform, are now reliably carrying million minutes of VoIP traffic monthly. 

Alastair's leading edge expertise is a result of working continually at the forefront of IP and VoIP technologies. He was responsible for establishing the first working VoIP peering platform in Australia which has enabled multiple VoIP service providers to exchange VoIP traffic without it traversing the public switched telephone network, PSTN. 

More recently, Alastair has been responsible for driving the expansion of Symbio's wholesale network within Australia and New Zealand and into new international markets.
