Christmas Period Rife with Toll-Fraud Thursday 14 December 2017 @ 14:32

Christmas has become a high-risk period for toll fraud attacks and it can be disastrous for unprepared telecommunications providers.

Service providers are particularly vulnerable during holiday periods as fraudsters take advantage of skeleton staff on duty. With fewer staff available to monitor and respond to fraud attempts, incidents can go on undetected.

Make sure you and your customers are protected from toll fraud this Christmas. All Call Termination Services (CTS) on the Symbio network are protected by the TollShield – the only real-time fraud detection platform.

Don’t leave your network, and your reputation, open to attack.

2017 Embargo Period Wednesday 22 November 2017 @ 17:19

The New Year is around the corner which means so is the Symbio end-of-year embargo period.

Embargos are implemented by most telecommunications providers to ensure network stability through the holiday period.

This year the embargo period will come into effect at midnight, Monday 18 December, and business as usual will resume Monday 15 January. During this period, there will be a reduction in operational resources, so all major works and network changes will be delayed until after the embargo.

From the entire Symbio team, we wish you a safe and happy holiday period.

Symbio Steps up to Bat for 'Challenger' RSPs Thursday 26 October 2017 @ 11:08

Symbio Networks CEO, Rene Sugo, has warned that the NBN policy settings need to be amended or innovation and competition will be stifled in the Australian telco industry. Currently the big 4 telcos control 94% of the NBN market share, which leaves the remaining 168 registered RSPs with only 6% between them.

Addressing the CommsDay summit in Melbourne earlier this month, Sugo emphasised that instead of creating competition for RSPs, the NBN has only concentrated the market further. The evidence was showing that the current pricing model was allowing incumbent Retail Service Providers to muscle out the ‘Challenger’ Retail Internet Service Providers (CRISPs).

“The irony surely has to be that out of the 172 RSPs, 4 of them have 94% market share, or to put it another way, 98% of the retailers have just 6% share of the market,” Sugo said.

MVNO isn't complete without API functionality Thursday 26 October 2017 @ 11:07

As a new-generation carrier of choice in the Australian wholesale market, Symbio focuses on empowering our customers. We do this by complementing our products with self-service API capability. So far we’ve had a hugely positive response to the API functionality we’ve rolled out to support our voice services. So when it came time to add MVNO to our suite, we wouldn’t offer customers anything less.

Symbio’s mobile API was developed in-house by our R&D team. It allows customers to plug-in service control functionality directly from within their own Operations Support Systems and portals. This means they can manage accounts and create new orders without leaving their own ecosystem.

Without API support, staff have to middle-manage orders, manually handling customer requests and raising them in the wholesale systems. This results in slow provisioning times, higher overheads, poor user experience and puts new MVNO players entering the market at a huge disadvantage.
